24 HOURS! Tour of Good Hope Entries Close 31 January 2020

The event for 2020 will have two main race categories, individual and teams.  

Individual competition

The individual event will be hosted in the following categories:

  • Elite and U23 (no UCI team event for 2020)
  • Junior Men
  • Veteran Men 30 – 39
  • Veteran Men 40 – 49
  • Veteran Men 50+
  • Ladies
  • The Tour Group (TG)


Individuals will be starting in the groups specified above, each group’s race will be controlled by a CSA commissaire/s and CSA rules will apply. The only exception to this will be the inaugural TG group. The Tour Group have been created for those entrants that enjoy the challenge but would prefer to ride with friends. This group will effectively be racing for time and position, but not for leader’s jerseys.  All individual categories will race an Induvial Time trial over 44km during stage 2, in the Slanghoek Valley.

King of the Mountain (KOM) and Sprint Competitions:

There will be KOM and Sprint points for all the above categories daily (except TG group), except for stage 2, the time trial. More information on actual points on offer and exact locations will be available in the race handbook, due early 2020

Daily Podium:

Top three finishers of the stage, for each of the above mentioned categories (exception TG group) will be called for the daily podium presentation.  Only the leaders in the general classification (GC) of each category will be called daily and receive the leader’s jersey (yellow). On stages 1,3, and 4 the leaders in the King of the Mountain (KOM) and sprinters jerseys will also be called.

Final Podium Presentation:

Top three finishers of stage 5, for each of the above mentioned categories (exception TG group) will be called for the stage’s podium presentation.  Top three finishers in the general classification (GC), the King of the Mountain (KOM) and sprinters jerseys will be called for the final podium presentation.

Team Competition

The team event will consist of teams minimum 4 and maximum 6 riders, and hosted in the following categories:

  • Mens teams
  • Mixed teams
  • Ladies teams

Teams will be starting in the groups specified above, unless the final groups sizes are too small. In this instance CSA and the organisers reserve the right to group some of these categories together for safety and logistical purposes. The final decision on this will be made and communicated by the end of January 2020. Each group’s race will be controlled by a CSA commissaire/s and CSA rules will apply. All Teams will race a Team Time trial over 44km during stage 2, in the Slanghoek Valley.

Daily Podium:

Top three finishing teams of the stage, for each of the above mentioned categories will be called for the daily podium presentation.  Only the leader (one rider) in the general classification (GC) of each category will be called daily and receive the leader’s jersey (yellow). The leading team will be handed a yellow number to wear as well, only to be worn on the days that they lead the category. On stages 1,3 and 4 the leaders (one rider per team) in the King of the Mountain (KOM) and sprinters jerseys will also be called. The leading team for each of these categories will be handed a red (KOM) or green (Sprint) number to wear as well, only to be worn on the days that they lead those categories.

Final Podium Presentation:

Top three finishing teams of the stage, for each of the above mentioned categories will be called for the stage’s podium presentation.  Top three finishers (riders) in the general classification (GC), the King of the Mountain (KOM) and sprinters jerseys will be called for the final podium presentation.

Team Timing Calculations:

The time of the fourth rider on each day, including the Time Trial, will count towards the team’s general classification for the team competition (Mixed teams would be recorded only once the second lady of the team has finished a particular stage). KOM and Sprint points will be awarded similar to the individual race.

Changing Category Type

Entrants that entered as individual but would like to join / from a team need to mail eventsupport@asgevents.co.za with the required information by no later than Wednesday 31 January 2020. There is no fee applicable in changing your category but any changes after this date might incur costs.

We understand that finding a comfortable place to stay during the week is important, especially after a hard day on the bike. We suggest that you contact Paarl Tourism for all the best accommodation options.

Shuttle Service:

If needed you can leave your vehicle at the start of stage 1 and 3 and book a shuttle for you and your bike back from the finish. R250 per stage.

Vehicle Transfers:

Your car can be safely driven during stage 1 and stage 3 from the start to the finish. R350 per stage.
